Samurai: Way of the Warrior is a game of hacking and slashing your enemies. There’s an adventure mode, and a Dojo mode where you get to battlebaddies in an arena and try to survive as long as you can.
There are three amazing things I adore about Samurai:
- First, the storytelling is great — between levels, the comic-style chapters reads like a real comic book, and the story is fairly thoughtful.
- Second, the hack and slash is done by directional swipes with your fingers and really takes advantage of the iPhone touchscreen. As you progress throughout the level, you can also unlock different swipe combos.
- Third, it makes you feel like a badass when you kill an enemy. When you make the right combos, you can slash an enemy in half or decapitate him.
The Cons? Well, it’s not bad at all considering this app is free:
- It’s a bit repetitive. Perhaps if they added a more intense survivor mode, optional weapon or armor upgrades, it would make the game a little more interesting.
- The enemies aren’t much of a challenge.
- The combos don’t always register, though the enemies are easy so I didn’t find this to be much of a problem.
- Swiping on the screen sometimes mean that you have to block your field of view to the enemy.
Regardless, it’s a spectacular game and the graphics are one of the best I’ve seen. But here’s the catch: It is only free for the next couple days so go download it now.
