I am really excited to announce the release of the HD version of one of my favorite games of all time on iOS. This game is called Tilt To Live. The basic principle is very simple. You are a white knight in his shiny arrow armor and you are fighting evil red dots. To do so you tilt your device as if the arrow was a ball on a table and you wanted it to roll in a given direction. (just like Labyrinth 2 HD)
The controls are amazingly responsive and every time I show this game to my friends they are always shocked at how precisely you can maneuver the arrow.
This version has everything the iPhone version had except the Gauntlet mode has been replaced by a brand new mode called Gauntlet Evolved and the whole game has been redesign to take full advantage of the resolution of the iPad. It is just gorgeous! The image is crisper than ever and the special effects weren’t left behind.
Another difference is that the base price is: FREE. That will give you access to the classic mode and only the default weapons. For $3.99 you get access to all 4 game modes and all unlockable weapons.
So simple and yet amazingly fun and addictive !
Here’s a little more explanation for the people who don’t know the game:
There are 4 modes:
Classic: You meander through an ever increasing number of appearing red dots as weapons randomly arrive on screen. There is no other way to kill the dots but to use the weapons on screen. The game ends as soon as you touch a red dot. To make a high score make sure you keep your combo going. If you survive long enough you’ll see the dot starting to get organized and generate all sorts of objects and grids coming at you to kill you. It’s not rare to see a bunch of dots form two rackets and a ball and that they start playing pong right in the middle of your game. If you pick up the spike shield stop moving for a second and you’ll see all the dots running away from you and then shiver as they stay at a safe distance from you. It’s that kind of little amazingly fun details that makes this game different from any other game out there.
Code Red: As One Man Left says it: “It’s Classic Mode on crack. Prepare to die!” Basically everything get intense much faster.
Gauntlet Evolved: In this mode dots will arrive from all sides and just pass through the screen. All you have to do is collect as many orbs as you can for as long as you can. The original Gauntlet (in the iPhone version) had obstacles coming at you with orbs in them. you had to make your way through them to collect the orbs and replenish your timer. (Personally I much preferred that mode but One Man Left told us that the new Gauntlet was designed to fully take advantage of the resolution of the iPad and the the original Gauntlet wasn’t as fun on such a big screen)
Frost Bite: Frozen red dots fall from the top of the screen down to a hot spring at the bottom of the screen. Don’t let the dots reach the water or they’ll thaw and start attacking you. You start with a bubble shield but be very careful not to lose it because that’s the only one you’ll get ! After shattering a bunch of frozen foes you will receive a burricade.
There are 9 different weapons: (4 default ones in the free version + 5 unlockable ones* in the $3.99 version)
The nuke: kills everything in the blast radius (except you of course).
The missiles: fires 5 homing missiles that will automatically aim for a red dot and make a small explosion.
The kameamea: shoots a huge fireball in from of you killing everything in its path.
The ice bomb: shards of ice explodes in all direction freezing all the dots around you but the dots aren’t dead yet. You now have to shatter their dreams forever…
The bubble shield*: a shield of acid surrounds you but as soon as you touch a red dot it explodes and releases its toxins killing all red dots around you.
The vortex*: touch it and after a 3 seconds count down, a vortex will suck all surrounding red dots to oblivion. Be careful this guy will suck you in too !
The spike shield*: without a doubt my favorite weapon in the game. A shield of rotating deadly spikes surrounds you killing any red dot that is fool enough to stand in your way. (a total combo booster!)
The lightning*: you will electrocute any red dot near you. The electrocution will even spread to nearby dots creating a zapping chain reaction.
The Burricade*: you turn into a flaming arrow for a second, leaving only burning death and desolation in your wake. The flames will say on the screen for a few seconds and then die down.
The game partnered with the Agon social gaming network where you can see all 43 award challenges that have some of the funniest descriptions I’ve seen. (I kind of wish they chose OpenFeint though since all my friends are on it but as long as I can brag about my high score it’s all good
) The loading screens are also pretty hilarious.
At this point there’s no doubt that I’m giving this game both of my TUMBS WAY UP d (^_^) b
PS: My username on Agon is crazymajax will you be able to break my 7 million points record ?
Here are a ton of screenshots in their high definition glory. (I also put a few shots of the iPhone Gauntlet mode for comparison.)
