Grim Joggers

Endless Runner
$0.99/£0.59

With endless runners remaining infinitely popular on the App Store, with titles like Canabalt, Robot Unicorn Attack, and Monster Dash reigning, it’s hard to get noticed in the sea of the genre. Grim Joggers by 10Tons Ltd. aims to get noticed with a unique card up its sleeve.

Grim Joggers sees you in control of not a single runner’s fate, but numerous, as you sprint through one of three locations, with a fourth promised in the near future. You will play through a jungle, a mine, and a glacier, each with their own unique obstructions. Like with most endless runners, Grim Joggers sees you tapping the screen to leap as a limitless supply of obstacles speed toward your characters. The forest area has hungering man eating plants, the mine has stalactites, and the glacier is home to polar bears just waiting to munch on your joggers.

Every two hundred meters, you are greeted with a milestone. Once you pass the flag, you are given a multiplier dependant of how many joggers remain. The more joggers that pass the milestone, the more calories burn, and the higher the score. If a single jogger is left, your score will not be as high as if you had every jogger trailing behind you.

Visually, there are superior endless runners, and with most already dominating the pixel style, Grim Joggers offers up nothing new. Though the title is an universal application, text can look slightly blurred on the iPad, though looks great on the ipod Touch and iPhone.

Grim Joggers also does not possess the greatest soundtrack, either, with very few variations between audio loops. Each area does have its own version of the same song, and another for when one jogger remains.

If you still haven’t checked out more superior endless runner titles, I would highly recommend the aforementioned Monster Dash, Canabalt, and Robot Unicorn Attack, but for those who simply cant get enough of the genre, you could do much worse than Grim Joggers, especially at its relatively minute price tag.
